The rooms are simply furnished, but comfortable. Each features TV and tea/coffee station. Most rooms have en-suite bathrooms.

Madeira is a small establishment, and there are few public facilities. Reception is on hand limited hours to assist, and there is a small conference room that can accommodate up to 20 delegates.

Breakfast is served every morning in the newly updated breakfast room, and consists of a full English breakfast, as well as other options as well. As for other meals, reception staff will be happy to offer good local dining recommendations.

Positive Reviews

Pleasant suburban location

While Madeira is not at all centrally situated, this is perhaps the point for many of the guests staying. They were looking for somewhere quite and peaceful to stay, and seemed to have found it in the Northfield suburb in which the hotel is located. Also mentioned was that Northfield Station was just five minutes away on foot, and had direct trains into Birmingham.

Accommodation for singles

Of course a lot of travellers to Birmingham are attending conferences or business meetings, and would desperately like to have a single room. Guests were happy to report that a few of these are available at Madeira, and were particularly good value.

Exceptionally welcoming hosts

Again and again guests complimented the hosts, Sharon and Andy, for their tremendous welcome. They were said to have the innkeeper's blood in them, and nothing seemed too much trouble when it came to accommodating their guests.

Negative Reviews

Extra charge for cooked breakfast

While guests described it as a fairly modest charge, they were definitely not expecting to pay extra to enjoy and English breakfast in…England. That being said, many did seem to enjoy both the standard continental buffet and the English add-on.

Some rooms a bit small

Like many converted properties, it seems like the rooms at Madeira are very much of different sizes, even if sold in the same booking class. There is one double that guests complain is really too small to be used as such, and they were not happy being allocated to this room.

Some room doors don't close properly

A curious one this, it was reported that at least some of the doors do not close properly without locking them. This wasn't a huge issue, obviously, but guests did get a bit tired of locking an unlocking the doors repeatedly.
