If you like to stay at a hotel that places you within walking distance of bars, restaurants, shops and attractions, the Travelodge Edinburgh Central Rose Street is an excellent choice. Some guests bemoaned the lack of a hotel restaurant but the numerous nearby dining spots make that an easy shortcoming to get over.
Previous guests have found the rooms at this hotel to be clean, comfortable and surprisingly spacious for a city centre property. The new beds go down well, as do the excellent showers. Guests mention that towels etc sometimes need to be topped up but these issues are handled without delay by the staff.
For a city centre hotel, the room rates here are exceptionally competitive, although booking early does seem to help keep costs down. The charges for the breakfast box and the extended Wi-Fi are also reasonable.
Although the location has its benefits, it also comes with a fair amount of background noise. There's the usual noise of people and traffic to contend with. Plus, guests mention that a large bottle bin nearby is regularly filled, sometimes quite late at night.
A small number of guests encountered problems with the Wi-Fi connection at this hotel, often describing it as intermittent at best. This issue occurred even when guests had paid for the extended access beyond the first 30 minutes.
While value for money seems to come as standard here, you should be aware that the cost of public parking in the area is quite high. This is not especially unusual for a city centre but took some guests by surprise nonetheless.
