Surroundings make for memorable holidays! Romantik Hotel Stern is at the heart of the rich history and culture of Chur. Its unparalleled historic background dates back to the engravings of Johannes Stumpf. One of his works from 1548 displays a large building close to the lovely Regula Church, and tradition has it that the walls of that church in the heart of Chur might be the foundations of the present Romantik Hotel Stern. The first written record is a statement from 1677 of the existence of an inn named Stern. By that time Chur was an important meeting point for merchants and travellers along the trade routes of Switzerland. Whether they arrived by way of one of the many mountain passes or from Lake Bodensee, they would meet in Chur, known as a hub for the flourishing traffic of goods between the north and the south in Medieval times. In Chur they found lodging for themselves and their horses at the mews of the Stern.
