The room rates at Sandy Lodge are very reasonable compared to some other hotels in Newquay, so if you are looking for a basic but comfortable hotel this place is a great choice.

You’ll receive a warm welcome when you arrive here, and the helpful staff have plenty of local knowledge that they are more than happy to share. Even when the hotel is full and busy they are always smiling.

All it takes is a few minutes’ walk to reach the cliffs overlooking Lusty Glaze Beach and Tolcarne Beach. Both are great spots for sunbathing and beach games, and there are also surfboard hire facilities available if you want to try catching a wave.

For a start, the ensuite bathrooms are very small, with a toilet, sink and shower all crammed in. The showers are temperamental, with the water temperature coming out of them fluctuating wildly, and you might even see some cracked tiles too.

From dusty areas behind doors to curtains in desperate need of a wash, the general cleanliness of the hotel is not quite up to scratch. You might find a few stray hairs in the bathroom from the previous occupant, or even mould growing around the window frames.

When you step inside Sandy Lodge it's as if you’ve stepped back in time 25 years or so. Many things really haven’t changed much in that space of time. The old bathrooms, faded wallpaper and a general tatty appearance does not do this hotel any favours.
