Review summary

This AI-generated summary was based on reviews from multiple
sites

This hotel offers a memorable stay, particularly known for its complimentary evening drinks accompanied by live entertainment and the relaxing public baths. Guests frequently highlight the spacious rooms (for Japanese standards), comfortable beds, and an excellent breakfast spread. The availability of free laundry facilities and the generally attentive staff further enhance the experience. It is an ideal choice for adults seeking a tranquil environment, couples on a romantic getaway, and sightseers due to its convenient location. While business travelers might appreciate the amenities, they should be mindful of potential WiFi limitations in rooms. To make the most of your stay, consider utilizing the free laundry services during off-peak hours to avoid queues.

Facilities & Amenities
Guests consistently praise the hotel's diverse facilities and amenities, which significantly contribute to a comfortable stay. The availability of free coffee and tea throughout the day in the lobby is a popular feature, as are the complimentary evening drinks often accompanied by live music, creating a vibrant atmosphere. The public baths, separated for male and female guests, are a highlight, offering a relaxing experience with hot pools and saunas, though some guests find them to be on the smaller side or occasionally crowded. The hotel also provides free washing machines and dryers with detergent, which is a highly appreciated convenience for travelers, although some report issues with machines being busy or not drying clothes effectively. Additional amenities like massage chairs and a library in the lobby offer further relaxation. However, a recurring concern is the inconsistent and often unusable Wi-Fi in guest rooms, particularly during peak hours.

Cleanliness & Room Comfort
The hotel generally receives positive remarks for cleanliness and room comfort. Many guests find the rooms to be spacious for Japanese standards and appreciate their tidy condition. The beds are often described as comfortable, contributing to a restful sleep, though a few guests have noted them as being too soft, firm, or even squeaky. Bathrooms are well-equipped with amenities and feature good water pressure, with some offering modern comforts like heated toilet seats. However, some rooms are reported to lack sufficient USB ports or electrical outlets near the bed, which can be inconvenient for charging devices. Noise levels can be an issue, with some guests experiencing disturbances from street noise, air conditioning units, or sounds from adjacent rooms. Additionally, the hotel's eco-friendly policy means that full room cleaning, including bed making, occurs only once every three days, with daily towel replenishment.

Dining & Food Quality
Guests frequently commend the hotel's dining and food quality, especially the breakfast buffet. It is consistently praised for its excellent variety, offering a wide selection of both Western and Japanese dishes, including fresh vegetables, cooked items, and an impressive array of breads and pastries. Many highlight the quality of the food, describing it as delicious and fresh, with popular items like French toast and smoothies. The complimentary welcome drink offered daily in the evening is also a much-appreciated perk, allowing guests to unwind. However, a significant point of frustration for some guests is the limited availability of breakfast tickets, often leading to it being "sold out" and unavailable for purchase on the spot. There have also been instances of rigid rules regarding access to coffee or tea during breakfast hours for guests who have not purchased the full buffet.

Location & Accessibility
The hotel's location is a major advantage for many guests, offering excellent accessibility to Kyoto's main transportation hubs and attractions. It is conveniently situated within a short walking distance (typically 7-10 minutes) from Kyoto Station, making it easy for travelers arriving by train. Furthermore, the Kujo subway station is located directly outside the hotel, providing immediate access to the city's metro system. Several bus stops are also found nearby, facilitating travel to various temples and tourist spots. Guests appreciate the proximity to convenience stores and local restaurants, adding to the overall convenience. While the location is generally quiet, some guests note that the Kujo station entrance directly outside the hotel lacks an elevator or escalator, which can be challenging for those with heavy luggage. Parking is available but can be expensive and limited.

Staff & Service
Feedback on staff and service is mixed, though many guests report positive interactions. Numerous reviews commend the friendly staff for their helpfulness and attentiveness, noting their politeness and willingness to assist with requests like luggage delivery or providing umbrellas. The check-in and check-out process is generally described as quick and efficient. However, a notable number of guests have reported less positive experiences, citing instances of rigid adherence to rules over common sense, particularly concerning breakfast access or coffee availability. Some guests have also mentioned a language barrier with certain staff members, and a few isolated but significant complaints describe staff as unfriendly, dismissive, or even discriminatory, leading to frustrating encounters. Despite these concerns, the overall impression for many is one of satisfactory and accommodating service.

Additional Information
Guests should be aware of several specific policies and features that impact their stay. The hotel maintains a child policy that restricts children under 12 from accessing the restaurant and breakfast buffet areas, with additional rules regarding behavior in common spaces. An eco-friendly cleaning policy means that full room cleaning, including bed making, is performed only once every three days, though towels are replenished daily. For those planning to use the public baths, it's important to note the tattoo policy, which prohibits guests with tattoos from using these facilities. While free laundry services are a valuable amenity, guests often report that the machines can be very busy, and dryers may not be highly effective, sometimes requiring multiple cycles. Additionally, the presence of a smoking section near the lobby has been noted to occasionally cause cigarette odor in common areas.
