4-star Hotel Pontikonissi Hotel is dreamily set just off the beach, at just a ten-minute drive from Corfu.
Relaxed air-conditioned and en-suite rooms lead off onto spacious private balconies with stunning sea views. Each features satellite TV and a mini-fridge. Room service is available 24 hours a day.
Free Wi-Fi is available, as is free parking on-site. Guests are welcome to relax in the game room, with pool and ping-pong tables.
Hotel Pontikonissi Hotel provides a generous complimentary breakfast buffet which is served in its informal restaurant. The hotel also features a 24-hour bar. Guests may also enjoy drinks at the poolside bar.
The hotel is just one kilometre from Mount Pantokrator and five kilometres from the deserted village of Old Sinies. Popular destinations in the area include Kanoni-Mouse Island, Queen Elizabeth of Austria’s Achilleion Palace, and the archaeological findings at Mon Repos Palace, all less than three kilometres away.
The hotel is right on the waterfront, and the front facing rooms were said to have great views over the sea. But even if guests were in a room without a view, they could still go up to the rooftop bar and enjoy the view, and a drink, from up there.
Bus to Corfu
It was mentioned that there was a bus that passed the hotel that went straight in to Corfu. Those without cars found it very useful, and it helped them avoid expensive taxi fares.
Very friendly and accommodating staff
While many guests mentioned that the staff were very welcoming on arrival, and friendly during heir stay, what most seemed to impress them was the way they dealt with special requests.
Directly on the approach path to the airport
Guests seemed almost disappointed to report this, since they really seemed to like the location and outlook. But the fact is that the hotel is situated right under the approach path to the airport, and so gets a lot of noise from the jets bringing people to Corfu.
In dire need of an update
Many guests mentioned that the décor throughout the hotel, in both the rooms and the public areas, was in style…several decades ago. They felt strongly that the hotel would be able to make a lot more of its great views and position if it had a full update and renovation.
Exceptionally small rooms
This was perhaps the most common complaint. Guest after guest mentioned that the rooms were simply too small, with space for the bed and not much else, even their luggage. The bathrooms came in for especially harsh criticism, with many saying they were too small to use comfortably.
