In Dutch Nooit Gedacht means Never Thought of ( Never thought of building a house) Originally the house of a Dutch Governor when Dutch ruled Galle in 1735. The spot for the Governor's mansion was chosen by the Dutch because of the fresh water spring in the back yard of the house. In the back yard is also the remnant of a Dutch canal once used to transport fresh water and spices to warehouses in Galle fort. In 1942 the house was commandeered by the British and used as the logistics centre for the Koggala Air Base during World war II.
