About Hotel La Joya Isla Mujeres
Situated in an incredibly privileged position overlooking the turquoise waters, Hotel La Joya Hotel offers rustic, yet elegant, boutique accommodation to those looking for a more tranquil Cancun area experience.
The 12 rooms have a simple elegance about them and contain beautiful traditional Mexican touches. Each features air conditioning, ceiling fan, minibar, TV and free Wi-Fi.
There is a wonderful thatched deck, with hammocks and regular seating, which is the ideal spot to laze the day away while being caressed by the sea breeze, as well as a small pool deck.
All three meals are available at the in-house restaurant, which serves both Mexican cuisine and international favourites. Delicious local cocktails are also available.
The main attraction must be the beach right out front. The turquoise waters are usually calm, and there are good snorkelling and scuba diving opportunities by the offshore reef. The spectacular cliffs of Punta Sur are les than a mile away.
Positive Reviews
positive:
Secluded beachfront location
This was by far what guests most enjoyed about La Joya. The hotel's location is described as a bit removed from the built up areas of the island, creating a secluded and very exclusive atmosphere that most guests thoroughly enjoyed.
positive:
Simple, unpretentious atmosphere
Many guests really seemed to enjoy the atmosphere at the hotel just as much as any amenity it offered. It was described as a comfortable but unpretentious place, and seemed to put many at ease and in a mood to really enjoy their vacation.
positive:
Beautiful sunsets
Though only mentioned by a few guests, the ones who did comment were obviously very impressed with the sunset views to be had. The property faces west over the sea, so guests enjoyed looking out across the bay and watching the sun dip below the horizon.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Some issues with the restaurant
La Joya is a small property, with just 12 rooms, and it seems that this sometime results in a shortage of staff. For example, it was mentioned that the restaurant would sometimes be closed, even if it was scheduled to be open at that time, due to the chef not being available.
negative:
No real sandy beach
While guests said there was a bit of sand here and there, the nearby beaches were described as being better for reef diving and snorkelling than walking barefoot over miles of sand. Those looking for expansive sandy beaches will be disappointed.
negative:
Some distance into town
While many said there were a couple of restaurants within walking distance, the actual town is some distance away, and usually requires motorised transport of some kind to get to. While most guests enjoyed this remote location, some would clearly have preferred to be closer to the town's amenities.
