Situated in a trendy neighbourhood, close to both the Old Port and popular Rue St. Denis, La Conciergerie is a sophisticated B&B housed in a charmingly restored Victorian property. The 17 rooms are furnished and decorated to a very high standard, and feature charming period furniture. While most rooms do have private en-suite bathrooms, a couple share a common bathroom. Those travelling in winter will enjoy relaxing in the cosy living room, where they can socialise or curl up with a good book. Summer visitors are more likely to be drawn to the gorgeous terrace, where they can sit back in a sun bed and absorb some precious rays. A simple continental breakfast is available every morning. Montreal is well known for the quality of its cuisine, and the hosts will be happy to offer some great restaurants recommendations. Berri-UQAM Metro Station, from where much of Montreal is accessible, is just 500 yards from La Conciergerie.
Many guests were quite impressed with the location of the B&B. They seemed to like that it was well situated between two popular tourist areas. Many said that they found it easy to walk to the Old Port are, perhaps Montreal’s most popular area with tourists. Others mentioned that it was also just a short way to the bars restaurants and other amenities on St. Catherine’s Street and the famous Rue St. Denis.
Guests really seemed to enjoy the breakfast offered. While relatively simple, guests said that it offered a good variety that seemed to include something for everyone. Also mentioned was that it was available until quite late, which was a relief for those who wanted to sleep in.
There’s no doubt that it was the B&B’s rooftop terrace that was the amenity that most impressed guests travelling in the warmer months. They described it as a fantastic area to relax in peace and quite and even get a bit of a tan in the process.
Some guests did mention being disturbed by odd noises from within the property. The staircase was said to be especially “creaky”, and one had to be very careful when walking on it late at night so as not to disturb fellow guests.
