Kupu Kupu Barong Villas and Spa by L’Occitane is a five-star resort offering luxury accommodation with the style and serenity of Bali and the Ayung River. Occupancy goes up to four people per villa and some include private plunge pools. Many of the villas have sweeping views across the Ayung River Valley as does the main restaurant. Other villas enjoy views of the lush tropical gardens which are also a serene environment to walk or relax in. Whether inside or out, the abundance of nature is a constant at the resort, adding to the romantic feel.
Although Kupu Kupu Barong is a little out of town, there are hotel shuttles throughout the day to get guests into the town centre for some shopping or sight-seeing as well as to and from the airport. Arrangements for these can be made with the reception.
The resort's close proximity to the river, mountain and countless nature trails means there are countless opportunities to really enjoy the great outdoors by cycling, hiking and even rafting. What's more, many of these tours or activities can be booked at the resort and transport provided to and from your adventures.
This means that there's much less activity in the immediate vicinity as well as few choices in dining, shopping, nightlife, etc. if any of these interest you. Guests can still drive themselves or arrange for a taxi to go back and forth, however.
For guests who intend on exploring the sites and activities in the surrounding natural area and in town as much as possible, not a lot of time is spent at the hotel which, for many, makes the room prices not quite worth it in the end. The spa is also fairly expensive.
Although wireless internet can be accessed for free in all villas and some public areas, the connection is often intermittent or slow, which may be a main issue for some.
